Beverly Peterson

Beverly was born and raised in California, where she started painting with oils.  In the late 1970s she began to feel restricted by two-dimensional surfaces and began to pursue large-scale sculpture, including outdoor installations, using steel, rock, wood,  found objects, artificial intelligence, and electricity. With some of these pieces, the viewer, either knowingly or not, may activate a mechanical part. At UCLA Beverly studied under Charles Ray, Nancy Graves, Chris Burden, Rush White, and Anne-Marie Richardson—renowned sculptors, printmakers, and performance artists. Their guidance helped open doors to gallery exhibits, outdoor installations, and private sales throughout the Los Angeles area.

Beverly moved to New Jersey more than 20 years ago and has lived most of that time in a hilltop home outside Clinton.  She acquired studio space in Easton, Pennsylvania, which has helped her redirect her focus to outdoor installations using steel, rock, and found objects. Then as now, Beverly also make prints by etching, a process known as Intaglio, which allows her to express extemporaneously the way she sees and experiences life. Business murals, paintings and sculptures, environmental installations, gallery shows, and private sales complement her life on the east coast.

Artist Statement:  My art is personal to me.  It expresses my processes of life. It is my hope that viewers interact with what I create through their own experiences in life and understand what they see by what they know.
